Lena Dunham becomes a mother for the first time

Lena Dunham has become a mother for the first time: the American actress and creator has welcomed a daughter, born via a surrogate mother.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, Dunham announced the news during an interview, revealing that the small preparations for the baby — like gathering clothes — gave her the feeling that her presence was becoming more real, while the pregnancy was carried in the body of a healthy and strong surrogate mother.

For years, Dunham has spoken openly about her fertility struggles. After a hysterectomy performed in 2018 due to severe endometriosis, she experienced failed in vitro fertilization attempts and surrogacy efforts, experiences she also describes in her memoir “Famesick.”

She is married to musician Luis Felber, whom she met on a blind date in 2021; the couple got engaged and married in London in September of that year. This is the first child they have together. Dunham has said that meeting people who have built families in different ways gave her hope and calm throughout this process.

As Harper’s Bazaar writes, the actress described the first moments with the child as filled with gratitude and excitement, saying she feels happy that their family is expanding in this way.
