“Les Misérables” lands at Olney Theatre Center with a Broadway cast: the musical’s 40th anniversary celebrated from October in Maryland
Olney Theatre Center, Maryland’s largest regional theater, will produce Boublil and Schönberg’s legendary musical “Les Misérables” on the Roberts Mainstage from October 30, 2026 to January 31, 2027 — a special celebration of the 40th anniversary of one of the most beloved musicals of all time, as BroadwayWorld reports.
The production is directed by Tony-nominated director Stephen Brackett, who returns to Olney after his 2022 success with “A.D. 16.” In the leading role of Jean Valjean is Trent Saunders, known from the Broadway company of “Dead Outlaw,” while opposite him as Inspector Javert will be Kevin S. McAllister, a veteran of many Broadway musicals and Olney, who recently directed the acclaimed production of “Come From Away” at Ford’s Theatre. Stephanie Waters, who once played Cosette on Broadway and in the U.S. tour of “Les Misérables,” returns to the stage after nearly a decade’s hiatus — this time in the role of Fantine.
The theater’s artistic director, Jason Loewith, said it is not common for “Les Misérables” to become available to regional theaters, so he seized the opportunity immediately. “Like every great classic, Les Miz feels fresh and relevant, with essential truths about the fight for freedom, the lengths we go to for those we love, and the power of mercy and humility when combined with passion,” he said.
The cast also includes Alex De Bard as Éponine, Tracy Lynn Olivera as Mrs. Thénardier, Quynh-My Luu as Cosette, Ben Clark as Marius and Tyler Dobies as Enjolras, led by music director Christopher Youstra and choreographer William Carlos Angulo. The set was designed by Arnulfo Maldonado, a Tony nominee for “Buena Vista Social Club.”
Tickets range from $57 to $118, and performances will run Wednesday through Saturday evenings, with additional matinees, as well as performances across the November and year-end holidays. The program also includes a masterclass “Inside the Music of Les Misérables,” on-stage tours and a family event at the Olney Library.
The production is an arrangement with Cameron Mackintosh and Music Theatre International.
