Liam Gallagher claims to know Manchester City’s punishment if they lose their appeal
The noise in England over Manchester City’s case keeps growing, and now Oasis singer Liam Gallagher has joined the debate. The lifelong City fan has answered those joking about the possible sanctions — a heavy points deduction and relegation for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules.
“Someone from a very high position told me that if we lose the appeal, which won’t happen, we will be punished with a fine and a transfer market ban, that will be all. So all you desperate neurotics, shut your mouths once and for all,” the singer wrote in a social media post, referring to information he says came from someone close to the top officials handling the legal process.
Since the ruling against Manchester City was published in the media, most English fans have fiercely criticized the club and the methods used in transfer dealings in recent years. Many of them, mainly from rival clubs, are demanding an exemplary punishment which in almost all cases would mean relegation.
Gallagher has become the face of City supporters who defend the club’s innocence and argue that if the appeal fails, the sanction should be administrative only and not touch the sporting side.
