Lili Reinhart revives Brittany Murphy’s Uptown Girls dress for film promo
Lili Reinhart dedicated The Love Hypothesis press tour to a series of references to the golden-age romantic comedies, wearing several outfits inspired by figures like Kate Hudson, Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Garner.
For her latest appearance, Reinhart worked with stylist Ib Abdel Nasser to recreate a famous dress that closes the final scene of Uptown Girls.
As Harper’s Bazaar reports, Nasser started from a Pinterest board titled “Rom-Com Baddies” and searched long for the design most remembered by the public. After intensive searches and online contacts, the style was found on Depop in a black version; Rebecca Taylor’s team agreed to deconstruct the original design to remodel the pieces and helped find a similar tulle and a dye matched to the soft pink shade of Brittany Murphy’s dress.
The result was a reproduction very similar to the original dress, prepared for Reinhart’s public appearance.
The dress was worn during Reinhart’s appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, and the stylist described the excitement of receiving the piece when it was delivered — a moment which, he said, made the whole idea make more sense.
The reproduction and the detailed work with the fine material and lace were seen as the return of a special element of romantic-film history.
In conclusion, this reproduction of the dress revives an iconic detail of the film’s image and gave Lili Reinhart a special moment during the tour, a move that, according to Harper’s Bazaar, refreshes the nostalgia of the genre’s well-known scenes.
