Medical Report Confirms Broken Nose and Jaw of Opposition Councilor; Calls Grow for Šapić’s Removal

A fracture of the left nasal bone and of part of the upper jaw near the nose, with displacement of the broken bone fragments — this is what the medical report of Belgrade Assembly opposition councilor Tanja Micić confirms, published today by the Kreni-promeni movement on the social network X, a day after the incident with Serbian capital mayor Aleksandar Šapić, as the portal nasportal.info reports, citing the movement’s publication.

Councilor Micić herself, shortly before the report’s publication, had written on X that she would leave everything to the institutions, stressing that the truth was also visible from the video of the incident and that she had not wanted to get involved in political discussions. She added that, had there been no video, no one would have believed her words — that she was thrown to the ground and struck.

According to Kreni-promeni, citizens are called today at 14:00 to a protest in front of the Third Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, where a criminal complaint against Šapić is also expected to be filed.

The incident happened Monday afternoon on the premises of the Belgrade Assembly. Kreni-promeni leader Savo Manojlović accused Šapić of headbutting the councilor after physically entering the opposition councilors’ area. Šapić, who was held briefly by police and then released, denied the accusations, declaring that he had not struck her but had pushed her to defend himself from her husband.

The parties’ claims remain opposed, but today’s medical report shifts the debate from denial of the injury to its confirmation.

Meanwhile, calls for Šapić’s removal are growing. Novi DSS leader Nikola Jovanović demanded Šapić’s immediate dismissal and criminal prosecution, arguing that he has disgraced the office of Belgrade mayor, as Nova.rs reports. Students in blockade also reacted to the incident, stressing that protecting women is not a campaign slogan, according to the same portal.
