Mexhiti from New York: meetings in the U.S. confirm North Macedonia is on the right path

North Macedonia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Izet Mexhiti, is in New York as part of the state delegation for the United Nations General Assembly session. Mexhiti told MIA that the delegation’s meetings with senior members of the U.S. administration are encouraging and prove the country is on the right path.

“We must bear in mind that the U.S. is a strategic partner of North Macedonia; they have supported us in all processes, from independence until today, in all dimensions. The presence of senior members of the U.S. government during such visits is a message that we are on the right path and that our country’s cooperation with the United States is deepening,” Mexhiti said, stressing that membership in the European Union remains the country’s only alternative.

Mexhiti also took part in the traditional meeting of the AARC organization in New York, attended by prominent Albanians of the diaspora in the U.S., including Albanians from North Macedonia. The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Foreign Minister Timço Mucunski, as well as Albania’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama.

“Given that Albanians are the second community in the state, they are an important factor for the country and hold great potential for investment, for political influence in Congress, in the Senate, in the U.S. government. The presence of the prime minister and the foreign minister, who were also greeted by Prime Minister Rama and the other attendees, is to be welcomed. Even though they are not Albanians, they honored us greatly with their presence here, and this will undoubtedly be returned at meetings of the Macedonian diaspora,” Mexhiti added.

The state delegation’s meetings, led by Prime Minister Mickoski, also included talks with the leadership of the U.S. Department of State and other U.S. representatives.
