MLB 2027 draft lottery odds: Mets get a shot at rebuilding, Rockies, Angels and Athletics lead
The New York Mets did not live up to expectations in the 2026 season, but they still have a chance to strengthen their development system through the 2027 draft. The Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics top the list of teams with the best lottery odds: each has a 19.1% chance of winning the first pick and an 87.6% probability of staying inside the top six.
As Bleacher Report reports, the Mets are considered at least likely to hold a spot in the top-six group, even though they are outside the main contenders for the first pick. The 2026 draft began with two highly rated shortstops, Roch Cholowsky and Grady Emerson, and early projections for 2027 include new names: MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo ranked Dylan Seward and Brendan Lawson at the top, while analyst Joel Reuter placed Seward second behind pitcher Tomas Valincius and gave Lawson fourth.
Reuter describes Seward as a quick-reflex athlete with above-average speed and advanced bat-to-ball skills, whose bat speed can produce usable power despite his roughly 1.83 m, 79 kg frame. Lawson posted a .511 on-base percentage and .699 slugging with the Florida Gators in 2026, raising his home-run total from 10 to 19 during the season. Valincius, who transferred to Mississippi State from Virginia, finished 11-2 with a 3.50 ERA in 17 games, recording 134 strikeouts in 97.2 innings; a similar season in 2027 would position him as the top pick among pitchers. It was also noted that needy teams could favor more polished prospects, as the White Sox did with Cholowsky.
Rankings and projections are expected to evolve as the regular season ends; according to Bleacher Report, the teams with the highest lottery probabilities will monitor player developments and adjust their strategies for the 2027 draft.
