Olivia Rodrigo’s dress dissolves during performance
Olivia Rodrigo kicked off the concert tour for her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, released in June. The album plays as a narrative through different phases of a relationship, and on stage the artist brought these stories to life through the setlist, staging and costume changes, as Harper’s Bazaar reports.
The show was divided into seasons: the spring part unfolded on a stage filled with thousands of fake flowers, where Rodrigo, in a babydoll dress by Dilara Fındıkoğlu, performed songs like “Drop Dead,” “So American” and “You + Me = <3.” Then the season transformed into summer, with an embellished top and short pink socks for the fiery songs “My Way” and “Serena Joy.” Autumn brought a purple leather minidress by R&M Leathers with a choker and hits like “Stupid Song” and “Maggots for Brains,” while winter closed with a white wool dress and emotional ballads, including “Driver’s License” and “The Cure.”
During the closing number, a staged rain began on stage and it was visible that her dress was dissolving, revealing a red latex layer beneath. The garment piece was designed by Hussein Chalayan, and stylists Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo call it the “unraveled dress”; the piece was made of a water-soluble material that was destroyed when wet, to create a dramatic effect before the encore.
According to Harper’s Bazaar, for the encore Rodrigo returned with the spring look, in a simple white top and low-rise jeans, still wet from the rain, and performed one hit from each album: “Deja Vu” from Sour, “All American Bitch” from Guts and “Expectations” from You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.
