Texas Albanians protested in Austin in support of the KLA
The Albanian community in Texas organized a protest in front of the state Capitol in Austin, opposing the verdict of the Hague Specialist Chambers against four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army and in support of Kosovo’s liberation war.
Participants in the protest carried flags of the United States of America, Kosovo and Albania, as well as banners with the messages “Not in My Name” and “Freedom Has a Name: KLA.”
During the protest, speakers addressing those present included the chairman of the Albanian-American Community in Texas, Visar Visoka, KLA veteran Ekrem Hyseni, former community chairman Nazar Mehmeti, as well as Bruno Ceka, Ruzhdi Halili, Agim Halili and Wylie City Council vice-chairman Gino Mulliqi.
The speakers described the Specialist Chambers’ verdict as unjust and expressed confidence that the case could receive different treatment during the appeals process.
In their speeches they also called for the unity of the Albanian political factor in Kosovo and the diaspora around, as it was put, the defense of the history and heritage of the KLA’s liberation war.
The protest in Austin is part of the reactions and gatherings organized by Albanians in the diaspora following the Specialist Chambers’ verdict against the former KLA leaders.
