“The Hound of the Baskervilles” lands on the London stage: Bristol company brings its modern take to King’s Head Theatre for the 125th anniversary

“The Hound of the Baskervilles,” Sherlock Holmes’s most famous mystery, returns to the London stage: Bristol’s Inner Voice Theatre will bring its modern take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic to Islington’s King’s Head Theatre from October 6–10, 2026, as part of the theatre’s autumn programme. The announcement comes in the year marking the 125th anniversary of the novel’s first publication in The Strand Magazine in 1901.

Produced and directed by acclaimed director Steven Clarke, the production is a high-energy comedy: three young actors play fourteen roles, occasionally even “breaking” the fourth wall and appearing as themselves. The script is by Olivier-nominated writers Steven Canny and John Nicholson — while The Guardian has described it as “full of imagination, intelligence and irreverence.”

The show has already passed the audience test: its April 2026 premiere at Bristol’s Tobacco Factory Theatres played to full houses, while television producer Gareth Edwards (Mitchell & Webb, Upstart Crow, Spaced) has called it “a brilliant, funny show with a superb cast, playful direction and hundreds of gags.”

The story is the classic: when Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead in the garden of Baskerville Hall in Dartmoor, with the tracks of a giant hound beside the body, Sherlock Holmes is called into action. With the help of the faithful Dr. Watson, he takes on the ancient curse of the Hound of the Baskervilles and must protect the new heir, Sir Henry Baskerville, from the terrible fate of his ancestors.
