North Macedonia Produced 94.7% of Its Consumed Electricity in July — Solar the Biggest Source

Skopje, September 26, 2026 — North Macedonia produced 460,035 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity in July this year, a quantity equal to 94.7 percent of the country’s gross domestic electricity consumption, which reached 486,007 MWh. The data was published by the State Statistical Office and cited by the Racin news agency.

Solar energy was the largest source of electricity production in July, confirming the increasingly important role of photovoltaic capacity in the country’s energy balance.

According to official statistics, July 2026 consumption of energy sources reached: 486,007 MWh of electricity, 3.858 million normal cubic meters (Nm3) of natural gas, 254,622 tons of coal, and 116,961 tons of petroleum products.

The data shows that 99.9 percent of coal consumption was used for electricity production.

Compared to July 2025, natural gas consumption recorded a sharp decline of 85.1 percent, while petroleum product consumption grew by 3.6 percent.

The July statistics demonstrate a clear shift toward domestic and renewable energy sources, with the sun taking an ever-larger place in the country’s electricity supply.
