Trump launches AI-powered America.gov platform, the government’s “new digital front door”

The Trump administration has launched an artificial intelligence-powered tool that its developers promise will serve as a “concierge” for the federal government, according to a Wall Street Journal report, as the White House seeks to modernize the relationship between citizens and the state.

The platform will be housed at America.gov, which launches Tuesday, marking a test of the administration’s digital ambitions. Joe Gebbia, the Airbnb co-founder who leads the White House’s National Design Studio, said the online portal would function as the federal government’s “new digital front door,” in time becoming the ultimate destination for all federal citizen services.

Renewing a passport or enrolling in Medicare, booking a federal campsite or checking student loan status — all of these, Gebbia said, could be started and completed on America.gov. “You search,” he said, describing the kind of tasks that could be done there, “and you never go back into the maze.”

The launch ceremony was held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, attended by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and tech leaders including Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman. A senior administration official predicted the “new digital front door” would have a bigger effect on ordinary Americans’ lives than the White House’s new ballroom.

The stakes are high: the most notorious federally launched site, Healthcare.gov, crashed at launch, creating an embarrassing and lasting headache for the Obama administration. White House officials say America.gov will not only avoid such a fate but will contribute a lasting legacy for President Trump.
