Volkswagen recalls over 208,000 vehicles in the U.S. over steering defect
BERLIN, September 18 / ATSH-AA / — German carmaker Volkswagen is recalling 208,724 vehicles in the U.S. due to a steering system defect, Anadolu reports.
The recall covers certain 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan, 2018–2019 Volkswagen Atlas and 2019–2021 Audi Q3 models, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The regulator said one of the bolts connecting the steering mechanism to the subframe could corrode and break, potentially causing the steering mechanism’s structure to crack.
Damage to the steering mechanism’s structure could lead to loss of steering control, increasing the risk of an accident.
Authorized service centers will replace the mounting bolt on the right side of the steering mechanism free of charge.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on November 10.
The recall is registered under NHTSA campaign number 26V590000, while Volkswagen’s recall codes are 48LG and 48VT.
