Zelenskyy: Overnight Russian strikes killed 2 in Kyiv region and injured 28 in Kharkiv, including 9 children
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday morning (September 28) that Russia attacked Ukraine’s regions throughout the night into the morning, causing casualties and considerable damage. As the Indian Economic Observer reports, citing the ANI agency, a residential high-rise in Kharkiv was hit by the strikes — the second and fourth floors partially destroyed — while 28 people were injured, including nine children.
According to the same report, two people were killed in the Kyiv region, one of them an Azerbaijani national. In the capital Kyiv, drones damaged residential buildings, communications infrastructure and fuel stations: an ordinary café was destroyed and a grocery market burned down.
The strikes spread wider. In the Odesa region a Palau-flagged ship was hit, while in the Zhytomyr region an ice-cream factory was damaged. Residential buildings were also hit in the Sumy, Rivne, Kharkiv and Odesa regions, while critical infrastructure was targeted in the Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Khmelnytskyi and Zaporizhzhia regions.
In his reaction, Zelenskyy thanked Ukraine’s supporters and demanded “clear decisions” from allies: strengthening air defense, support for the energy system and help for the country’s budget.
Russia’s Defense Ministry, for its part, claims via the TASS agency that overnight it downed 254 Ukrainian drones over 16 regions, Crimea and the Black and Azov seas, and that Russian forces carried out group drone strikes on logistics hubs and port infrastructure in Ukraine — including the Ukrtelecom and DreamLine data centers in Kyiv, fuel infrastructure, the Vasylkiv air base, the Nova Poshta logistics hub in Odesa and two cargo ships.
