29 years ago he protested against the Serbian regime, today he protests against the Hague verdict, Muhamet Mavraj speaks

Twenty-nine years ago, he was one of the leaders of the student protests of October 1, 1997, to oppose Serbia’s occupation of Kosovo and the return of students to university buildings, while today Muhamet Mavraj will stand before the protesters to oppose the convicting verdict of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

In an interview with Radio Dukagjini, Mavraj says that today’s civic mobilization will be even greater, also because of the anniversary of the 1997 student protests.

“It is not only about opposing the verdict, but also about the greatness of the values of the Kosovo Liberation Army’s war. The 1997 protest reminds us of the long, exhausting, strenuous effort to reach a point — the point where all Albanians, regardless of differences, on October 1, 1997, came together and were together,” Mavraj says.

According to him, if that spirit of unity is present today, tomorrow and in the days to come, Kosovo will emerge victorious in this great legal battle.

“I am very convinced that constructive pressure, determination and persistence, in a peaceful way, will succeed at the right time and in the right place,” he emphasizes.

Mavraj says that all Albanians around the world have been affected by this convicting verdict against the former KLA leaders.

“Today, when I see Kosovo’s children finishing their homework and, with the national and KLA flags, going to the protest without saying much, as much as it touches me, it gives me great hope that the toil of the martyrs of freedom will not have been in vain,” Mavraj says.

The nationwide protest has been called for 4:00 PM at “Skënderbeu” Square in Pristina, to oppose the Special Court’s verdict against the KLA four, as Radio Dukagjini reports.
