Klekovski in Kichevo: the new hospital remains the goal, immediate reinforcement with equipment and staff
Health Minister Sasho Klekovski visited the General Hospital – Kichevo today, where together with director Maja Cvetanoska Trajkovska and mayor Aleksandar Jovanovski he held a press conference about the new hospital and the destination of the existing building, as MNet television reports.
“The new hospital is our goal and we are actively working to realise this project. But the citizens of Kichevo and the surrounding area cannot wait until it is built. That is why we are not waiting — we are strengthening the hospital right now, with new equipment, new services and new staff,” Minister Klekovski said.
Among the innovations presented this year, for the first time at this hospital: immunological equipment for analysing tumour markers, hormones, D-dimers, cardiac markers and allergology panels; a blood gas analyser for rapid assessment of emergency and seriously ill patients; new anaesthesiology equipment with a capnograph and a new LED operating light, while videolaryngoscopy and an autoclave are in progress; a new gastroscope for better diagnosis.
“Equipment without staff means nothing, and staff without equipment cannot work. In Kichevo we are building both at the same time — so that the patient receives the diagnosis and treatment here, in his own city, without travelling to Skopje,” Klekovski stressed, announcing that 4 residents and 4 general medicine doctors have been employed full-time, while for 5 other residents the procedure is in its final phase.
Director Cvetanoska Trajkovska noted the importance of the new equipment: radiology received a new digital X-ray, a digital mammograph and a 3D/4D ultrasound device with elastography, a donation from the Municipality of Kichevo. In the X-ray cabinet alone during 2025 about 19,500 examinations were carried out, including X-rays, CT scans, mammographies and breast ultrasounds.
The visit is part of a working visit to health institutions in the southwestern region, which also included the Special Nephrology Hospital and the General Hospital in Struga. As the 4NEWS media outlet notes, Klekovski is the 21st minister in a row to promise the building of the new hospital in Kichevo — a promise residents have heard for decades, while studies for the building are being drafted.
