“A great strangeness is happening…”, Beci slams the Police: An emergency intervention was needed!
Former prosecutor Eugen Beci, a guest on the “Opinion” programme this Thursday, October 1, sharply criticised the Police’s failure to react and its delayed intervention in the case of the publication of intimate videos, whose distribution has taken on huge proportions.
He said the State Police, the Cybercrime sector and the Prosecution, which has cybercrime sectors within its structures, did not act as they should, relying only on the fact that a “complaint” had not yet been made by the injured parties.
“‘We have no complaint’ from the citizen and of course we will wait to have a complaint from the citizens — that is not true. The criminal offence that was being committed yesterday and continues to be committed today in the Republic of Albania, while the whole world is enjoying it, is a criminal offence that should have been pursued ex officio within two or three hours by the Cybercrime sector.
We are part of the conventions on protection against cybercrime and we have a cybercrime office that operates 24/7 in relation to all social networks. We have an AKEP that functions on the basis of the law on data protection and the distribution of all materials, which are linked to internet distributors. Yesterday it was seen that nobody reacted!”
According to him, the legal infrastructure is not lacking, but the Police are unprepared in the face of such cyber events.
“As I see it, the Police are, have been and will be unprepared for this attack, because they keep adding police patrols and do not add the specialists who deal with cybercrime. Cybercrime sectors were mentioned here, but they do not have computers, let alone start other ‘games’.”
