AfD Lawmaker: It Cannot Be Ignored That 92% of Kosovo’s Residents Are Albanian

AfD lawmaker Tobias Teich, appearing as a guest, spoke about his and his party’s stance on the Kosovo issue and its relations with Serbia.

According to him, Kosovo’s ethnic composition is a fact that cannot be ignored, although a solution remains complicated due to official Belgrade’s stance.

Teich expressed hope that border incidents would be avoided and said he was open to personally contributing to facilitating contacts or negotiations between the parties.

“We are aware of the problems Kosovo is going through. It has been a difficult issue since the conflict began. We want territorial integrity to be respected. If I’m not mistaken, we think that over 90–92% of Kosovo’s residents are of Albanian origin. This must be accepted, but on the other hand, Serbia continues to call it its province, and it is difficult to say whether there will be any progress in Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo,” he said on Euronews Albania.

“There are over 100 countries that have recognized Kosovo, and I think something must be done to find a solution for the future. As a German citizen, I don’t want to say whether Serbia is right or Albania is right, because each side has its own problems, including in domestic politics.

What matters is that there are talks to find a solution that would be acceptable to all countries. I think that in the past the presence of foreign troops was very positive, as it guaranteed security, ensured the conflict would not flare up again, and that is the most important thing. I also refer to Bosnia, where there were troops — there is a parallel between Kosovo and Bosnia. Therefore I would suggest that the truth be considered before we have a final solution for the Kosovo issue.

I hope there will be no more clashes, especially in the border areas between Kosovo and Serbia, and if I can do something for the negotiations, tell me and I will gladly do it. My boss in our party can talk to him and I can take on this small task. And if you have questions about this issue in the future, feel free to tell me,” he said.
