Air Force Super Puma lifts six pupils from the Petrostrouga refuge on Olympus – video from the rescue operation
The Greek Air Force has released the video of the rescue operation for six pupils and their chaperone on Mount Olympus, ProtoThema writes. The footage records the arrival of the Super Puma helicopter in the area of the Petrostrouga refuge, the boarding of the people, and then the helicopter’s arrival in Litochoro with their disembarkation.
They are 17-year-old pupils of a private school in Thessaloniki who were on a school excursion, according to the Greek state news agency APE-MPE. At the Petrostrouga refuge, at an altitude of over 1,900 meters, they showed pathological symptoms — according to reports, after consuming food.
An operation was launched for the transfer of the pupils, in which Fire Service and EMAK forces took part. Seven firefighters from the 2nd EMAK and the Litochoro Fire Service approached the Petrostrouga refuge where the pupils were, while a helicopter was made available through the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA). The pupils were transported in the morning to the heliport of the 24th Brigade in Litochoro and from there by EKAB ambulances to the General Hospital of Katerini, to be given the necessary medical care.
The causes of the pupils’ illness are being investigated.
