Along with Ronaldo, 300,000 followers left Instagram
The digital world was not indifferent to the row between Jorge Jesus and Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portugal national team, a development marked by the captain’s departure from the team’s training camp in Denmark. The ensuing crisis also had an impact on social media, with the Portuguese Football Federation’s account losing thousands of followers after the rift, as internet users reacted to the controversy by withdrawing their support for the FPF.
As the Portuguese newspaper A Bola reports, less than 24 hours after the controversy began, the national team’s official Instagram page recorded a loss of more than 300,000 followers. On Wednesday evening, when the problem became public, the account had approximately 24,942,000 followers, but by morning that number had fallen to 24,600,000.
‘We weren’t following Portugal, we were following Cristiano Ronaldo’ and ‘I no longer have to pretend I like Portugal. Cristiano, you were the only good thing about this team’ were some of the comments posted.
