Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” returns to Singapore: four weeks at the Sands Theatre from 29 October
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous musical “Cats” returns to Singapore for a four-week season at the Sands Theatre of Marina Bay Sands, from 29 October to 22 November 2026, as BroadwayWorld reports. The production is presented by Base Entertainment Asia, in collaboration with GWB Entertainment and LW Entertainment.
Inspired by T. S. Eliot’s children’s poems, “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” (1939), “Cats” has been performed in more than 54 countries, translated into 23 languages and seen by over 77 million spectators worldwide since its West End debut in 1981, according to the same source. The original London production played nearly 9,000 performances, becoming one of the longest-running titles in theatre history.
At the centre of the work is Grizabella, the “former beauty cat”, a role played in this return by Cindy-Ann Abrahams, who will also perform the musical’s most famous song, “Memory”, recorded since the 1980s by more than 150 singers. The cast also includes Dylan Janse van Rensburg as Rum Tum Tugger, Tatum Coleman as Bombalurina, Che-jean Jupp as Munkustrap and King B as Old Deuteronomy.
In Singapore, the role of Grizabella has previously been played by names familiar to the regional audience, such as local actress Jacintha Abisheganaden and West End star Joanna Ampil, while the cast of the 2019 return also included Mukeni Nel (Quaxo/Mr. Mistoffelees). The show unfolds in a giant-scale stage jungle, where the cats gather for their annual ritual, the Jellicle Ball, under the light of the full moon — with Lloyd Webber’s score mixing classical motifs, pop melodies and jazz rhythms that stay in the ear after the curtain falls.
