Democratic Senator Chris Murphy arrives in the Middle East to see the damage of the war
Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Murphy has arrived in the Middle East, according to The Times of Israel, to see for himself the damage caused by the ongoing U.S.–Iran war.
Murphy said that over the coming days he will meet leaders in Qatar and Saudi Arabia to discuss with them ‘the way the United States is conducting this war, the threat Iran poses to the region, and the path to ending the conflict’. The senator is the first Democrat to visit the region since the war broke out on February 28.
‘This war and the forever wars in the Middle East are unpopular with Americans,’ Murphy said. ‘I think Americans should understand the consequences of this war, both for the region and for our own security.’
Murphy is a vocal critic of U.S. President Donald Trump’s war against Iran, calling it illegal and disastrous. ‘This catastrophic war has killed hundreds of civilians in Iran and Lebanon, cost American taxpayers billions, and has shown no benefit to the national security of the United States,’ the senator said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
