Anthropic bets billions of dollars on an AI-driven economic revolution
Anthropic is placing a big bet on artificial intelligence’s impact on the global economy, calling it potentially more transformative than industrialization, electrification and the internet, according to its prospectus for an initial public offering (IPO), seen by Reuters.
But the vision comes with extraordinary costs. According to the document, the company reported a net loss of $42 billion in 2025 and plans to commit around $518 billion to cloud services, computing capacity and infrastructure in the coming years.
Anthropic saw strong revenue growth over the past year. Revenue grew about 12-fold, reaching nearly $4.6 billion in 2025. The company nevertheless recorded more than $8 billion in operating losses, excluding impairments tied mainly to liabilities from earlier financing.
The expected IPO could value Anthropic at more than $2 trillion and would be a major moment for the artificial intelligence market. The offering is also expected to be seen as a benchmark for how Wall Street investors will value leading AI companies, including rival OpenAI.
The company is also facing concerns about the safety of increasingly autonomous AI models. Anthropic’s own research has documented cases in controlled tests where models showed unexpected behavior, including code sabotage, assisting in fraud and manipulating information.
These findings have fueled broader debate about how companies can control ever more powerful systems while racing to bring them to market.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called for a slower pace in releasing new AI capabilities to address safety concerns. At the same time, the company has continued aggressively expanding its products and infrastructure investments.
