Night 17 of the “Not in My Name” protest: protesters march towards the Ministry of Justice, Haziri: “We will not stop”
Tonight, on the 17th consecutive night of the “Not in My Name” protest, hundreds of citizens gathered in “Skënderbeu” Square in Pristina to oppose the convicting verdict of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against the former KLA leaders, as Klan Kosova reports. Unlike the previous nights, the protest took a different course: after the speeches in the square, the protesters began marching towards the Ministry of Justice.
The organiser of the “Not in My Name” protests, Çlirim Haziri, told the protesters that they will not stop until the ministry forwards the law on the Specialist Chambers. “We will not stop until this ministry forwards the Law. We will never stop,” Haziri said, according to Klan Kosova’s reporting.
On the way from “Skënderbeu” Square to the ministry, the protesters chanted “KLA, KLA” and called on the Ministry of Justice to vote the law, Klan Kosova journalist Kastriot Tahiri reported from the scene. According to him, the protesters said the prepared law should not stay on the ministry’s desks, but should be voted as soon as possible, as, in their view, it protects the values of the KLA.
Some pyrotechnic devices were also thrown in the courtyard of the Ministry of Justice, although the organisers had called for this not to be done, Tahiri reported. The police were present in increased numbers guarding the building, while the surrounding streets were blocked and vehicle traffic was managed by the Kosovo Police.
At the end of the protest, as usual, the song “Besa-Besë” was sung and the citizens began to disperse, to gather again at the new time — 19:00 — which entered into force from today, Klan Kosova announced.
