Bahrain and Syria condemn the Houthi attack on a power station in Medina
Bahrain strongly condemned the Yemeni Houthis’ alleged attack on an electricity distribution station in the Saudi city of Medina, as Al Jazeera reports in its liveblog. In a statement issued by the Shura Council, the attack was described as a “flagrant violation of international laws and norms” and a “serious escalation” threatening the security and stability of Saudi Arabia.
Council representatives expressed Bahrain’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for its efforts to protect its territories, sovereignty and stability. The statement said Saudi Arabia’s security is an “integral part” of Bahrain’s security and stability.
Syria also condemned the alleged attack “in the strongest terms”, the Syrian Foreign Ministry in Damascus said. Damascus stands in “full solidarity” with the kingdom and affirms its support for all measures Saudi Arabia takes to preserve its sovereignty, security and stability, and to protect its people and holy places. The ministry called for an immediate halt to attacks targeting civilian sites and holy places.
The Houthis denied the accusations, calling them “baseless” and saying they were “extremely surprised” by them, according to Al Jazeera. Bahrain’s and Syria’s condemnations follow those expressed earlier in the day by Lebanon and Pakistan over the same alleged attack.
