Begaj follows “Arber Shield 2026” military exercise: Malicious actors could endanger peace in the region

President Bajram Begaj closely followed the finalization of the “Arber Shield 2026” exercise of the Light Infantry Group Battalion, held in Bizë, which was certified “Mission Capable” according to NATO standards.

In his welcoming remarks at the ceremony, Begaj praised the certification as proof of the progress of the Armed Forces, their high preparation, discipline and professionalism, and as a standard to be maintained.

“Today, here in Bizë, you proved not only high tactical preparation, but also endurance and strong military character. You demonstrated the ability to plan, coordinate and act in a complex operational environment,” the President of the Republic declared, stressing that military readiness is built every day through training and professionalism.

As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Head of State stressed that in the context of security challenges — including the war in Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East, hybrid threats, cyberattacks and disinformation — the risks also affect our region, which is why defense must be strengthened to guarantee national security.

“The resurgence of nationalism, divisive rhetoric, ethnic tensions and the attempts of malicious actors to exploit our weaknesses can endanger the peace and stability of the region. Precisely for this reason, we must invest in security before insecurity knocks on our doors. Peace is not preserved with passivity or merely with statements. It is protected with readiness, training, stable alliances and a well-equipped and well-prepared Armed Force,” the President declared.

He placed special emphasis on the partnership with the United States and NATO, stressing that the Armed Forces are capable of contributing alongside allies wherever required. “Being assessed ‘Mission Capable’ is not a title that stays in the archives of an exercise. It is the real ability to deploy and act with operational effectiveness wherever and whenever required, alongside our allies.”

The Head of State also recalled investments in the defense industry, the modernization of structures, the development of military capabilities and infrastructure, and the guarantee of national security. “The achievements of our Armed Forces would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our NATO allies. I want to especially appreciate the strategic partnership with the United States of America. American support,” President Begaj stressed, “has been continuous and decisive for the growth of our defense capacities.”

On this occasion, President Begaj conveyed a special message of gratitude to the New Jersey National Guard, through its commander, Brigadier General Yvonne L. Mays, who was present at the ceremony.

At the end of his speech, the Head of State assured the military personnel that, as President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, he will support every initiative that improves the conditions of service, career and well-being of military personnel and their families.
