Trump: Russia has lost control of its oil industry; ‘ridiculous’ war must end

US President Donald Trump called on Monday for an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine, following new Ukrainian drone strikes on Moscow’s energy facilities, which caused a new rise in oil prices.

In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump wrote that Russia “has lost control of the diesel oil industry because of its war with Ukraine,” adding that a large number of diesel refineries have been blown up and are, at least temporarily, out of operation.

“This ridiculous and endless war with Ukraine must end. The whole world is suffering, as 25,000 people, mostly soldiers, are being killed every month. What a shame!” Trump wrote.

According to the New York Post, US oil prices reached a record $6.51 per gallon on Monday morning.

Trump is scheduled to meet on Tuesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. He has repeatedly called on Ukraine to stop long-range strikes on Russian oil facilities, with the aim of stabilizing the energy market.

The statement comes after Sunday’s massive Ukrainian drone and missile attack on Moscow, which hit the Gazpromneft-Moscow refinery. Kyiv considers the refineries legitimate military targets in the war against the Russian invasion.
