Boris Johnson and EU officials narrowly escape as Russian drone hits train behind them
New details have emerged about the Russian drone strike recorded against a passenger train in western Ukraine, near the border with Poland. The attack is understood to have happened minutes after a train carrying former British prime minister Boris Johnson and senior European officials passed along the same railway line.
There were no casualties in the incident, as passengers had been evacuated in time once the threat was detected. The drone struck the train’s locomotive, causing material damage.
Boris Johnson was leaving Kyiv, where he had attended an international conference. Senior European security officials were travelling on the same railway route, including British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell and an adviser to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Johnson reacted harshly after the attack, questioning the reason for striking the train near the Polish border.
“When will we give them the air defense they need?” he said.
Reports say Russian drones struck near Ukraine’s border with Poland. No official confirmation yet.
