Brigades Palace hosts National Security Council meeting, with the Hyseni case at the center
The National Security Council is meeting this Monday at 08:30 in a session convened by the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, at the Brigades Palace. The meeting comes at a moment when security institutions are facing one of the most sensitive issues of recent years, following the arrest of former SHISH director Vlora Hyseni.
Institutional sources say discussions will focus on national security and the protection of classified information, while the mechanisms governing the functioning of security institutions in cases where their leaders become subjects of criminal investigations are also expected to be examined.
Around the table will be the heads of the 13 institutions that, by law, make up the National Security Council, including Prime Minister Edi Rama, who returned to Albania a day earlier after a six-day visit to the United States.
After his return, Rama reacted to the situation created by the investigation into Hyseni. He said the former SHISH chief would face the justice process herself, while calling the measure against her extreme. According to the prime minister, the case is about more than the criminal aspect — it also raises concerns affecting the functioning of security institutions and the protection of state interests.
The meeting will also be attended by the acting SHISH director, Elvis Lila, who is temporarily leading the institution until a new chief is appointed. Rama has said the future SHISH director will be selected in consultation with President Begaj.
