Budva beats Partizan on penalties 17-14 — drama in the second round of the Regional Water Polo League

Budva won the most exciting match of the second round of the Regional Water Polo League, beating Belgrade’s Partizan 17-14 on penalties. Regular time in the clash played in Budva ended in a 13-13 draw, while home goalkeeper Dragoljub Ćetković was decisive in the penalty series.

Partizan started the match better. After just over two minutes of play, the Belgraders led 2-0 with goals from Andrej Durutović, entered the second quarter with a 4-2 advantage and went into the big break at 6-5. At the start of the second half they even pulled away to 8-5, giving the impression they were taking control of the match.

But Budva came back strongly. Savo Ćetković leveled the score at 8-8 midway through the third quarter and, just before its end, gave his team the first lead, 10-9, while Dragović stretched the gap to 11-9. The 6-1 run in the third quarter did not break the match, because Partizan recovered: Božović equalized at 12-12, Đurđić (with a man up) gave Budva a 13-12 lead, while Đokanović leveled again at 13-13. At the end of the game, goalkeeper Todorovski recorded his 14th save.

In the penalty series, Budva goalkeeper Dragoljub Ćetković decided the match, saving two penalties and sealing the fate of the game. The match’s top scorers were Savo Ćetković and Marko Mršić with 4 goals each for Budva, while Andrej Durutović stood out for Partizan, also with 4 goals, as Dan reports.
