Clash over the Special Court in the Legislation Committee: PDK boycotts the meeting, demands the law go to the Assembly
The meeting of the Legislation Committee was interrupted by a fierce clash over the draft law amending the Law on the Specialist Chambers: after the committee did not put the PDK’s proposal on the agenda, the party’s members walked out of the meeting, as VOX Kosova reports.
PDK MP Blerta Deliu-Kodra called the failure to put this bill on the agenda entirely unserious, saying it is the most important issue the Committee should deal with. “It is entirely unserious to convene the Legislation Committee, to deal with six agenda items today and not have the law on the Specialist Chambers under review. The PDK considers that in these circumstances there is no greater priority and we cannot simulate normality in this committee today. We, together with Mr Gruda, will not stay in the Committee meeting, because, as I said, this approach is unserious,” Deliu-Kodra said.
Another PDK member on this committee, Përparim Gruda, said the country’s history is being sullied in The Hague. “We cannot allow those three or four judges there in The Hague to sully our history,” Gruda said, who also added, according to Klan Kosova’s reporting, that Kosovo’s Assembly can undo the Special Court.
Alliance MP Besnik Tahiri also backed this position, calling the issue vital. Meanwhile, the governing side’s member on this committee, Adnan Rrustemi, replied that they are within the deadlines and are awaiting the Government’s opinion.
Deliu-Kodra meanwhile called on the Government and Justice Minister Donika Gërvalla to bring the bill on the Specialist Chambers to the Assembly, demanding that political statements be accompanied by concrete actions, as Fiks.AL reports. “The Government should not drag its feet and should not call it a daily-agenda topic, because such a law does not constitute a daily topic,” she said, adding: “35 laws cannot be passed and normality simulated, because Kosovo today is not in a normal situation.” Deliu-Kodra recalled that the Assembly passed with 99 votes the joint declaration of the political parties that described the verdict as unjust, so, as she said, “we owe it to the country to commit ourselves to making a law that helps the KLA leaders and, above all, helps Kosovo.”
