“DEA OPEN AIR” brings three nights of Albanian cinema to Saranda
The “DEA OPEN AIR” film festival continues to promote Albanian cinema, create new screening spaces and strengthen the ties between authors, works and the public.
As part of this initiative comes the FOCUS CineKO program, which launches today in the city of Saranda and will run for three consecutive nights. FOCUS CineKO brings the public three representative productions of Albanian cinema made beyond the borders of Albania.
The program aims to spotlight films, authors and artistic experiences that, although created in different countries, belong to a shared linguistic and cultural space.
“DEA OPEN AIR” notes that Albanian cinema in Kosovo, North Macedonia and other countries of the region has in recent years built an increasingly visible profile. It has been represented at international festivals, drawn critics’ attention and shown that cooperation among Albanian filmmakers can produce works with a distinct artistic identity and the potential to communicate with a wide audience.
The FOCUS CineKO program aims to encourage the circulation of Albanian productions in the region and to support the idea of a more open cultural and cinematic market.
“DEA OPEN AIR” invites the public of Saranda, as well as visitors to the city, to join the three evenings on the city promenade to discover new films, reconnect with acclaimed works and experience a journey through Albanian cinema beyond borders. Admission to the event is free.
The first evening opens with the film “Karma,” directed by Esat Fejza. On Saturday, September 19, the program continues with “Krejt e thirrin Rexhon,” directed by Ibër Deari. Sunday is dedicated to “Cirku fluturues,” directed by Fatos Berisha. The program closes with the return to Saranda of “Cirku fluturues.”
