Djokovic’s comeback in Beijing: he overturns Zverev 2:1 and secures the semifinal, Medvedev awaits

Novak Djokovic advanced to the semifinals of the ATP tournament in Beijing after defeating the German Alexander Zverev 2:1 in sets (4:6, 6:4, 6:4) in the quarterfinals, Danas reports. The Serbian tennis player thus remained unbeaten in the Chinese capital, where in 32 matches played so far he still does not know defeat.

Djokovic lost the first set after a break in the seventh game, but in the continuation he raised the level of his play, as Tanjug conveys. In the second set he took Zverev’s serve twice, while in the deciding set he made the decisive break at 4:4, and then with sure serves closed the match in his favour.

This was the 15th meeting between Djokovic and Zverev, and the Serbian player now leads 10:5 in their head-to-head duels. In the fight for the final, a clash with the Russian Daniil Medvedev awaits him, who was better than the American Learner Tien in the quarterfinals.

Djokovic has won the Beijing tournament six times so far, more than any other player in the event’s history. With the victory over Zverev he continues the pursuit of his 101st career title.

The ATP 500 tournament in Beijing is played for a prize fund of 4,089,385 US dollars. The semifinal duels are played on Sunday, while the final is scheduled for Monday.
