Elections and political beliefs: what Irish composer Bono revealed about his collaboration with Ed Sheeran on the song “Yours Eternally”

Singer and composer Bono has recently recounted the behind-the-scenes of his collaboration with Ed Sheeran on the song “Yours Eternally”, saying the British singer was concerned that the project might involve him in political matters.

The song is written from the perspective of a Ukrainian soldier during the war with Russia. Bono explained that Ed Sheeran did not hesitate to ask him whether the song was linked to politics, so that he could feel free in the project he would work on.

The singer said that after Sheeran’s reaction he understood that artists should not feel pressured into particular political positions, linking the situation to the recent controversies from Sheeran’s American tour and his confrontation with the artist Macklemore after his public statements in support of Palestine.

“As far as Ed and Macklemore are concerned, we should not personalise what is happening,” he said.

Bono, meanwhile, has described the collaboration with Sheeran as a project that went ahead despite the British singer’s reservations about involvement in political topics.
