EU integration / Inter-parliamentary conference opens in Tirana with senior leaders and representatives

The capital welcomes today the proceedings of the Inter-Parliamentary Conference on the “Strategic agenda for EU enlargement and Albania’s membership,” a high-level event bringing together representatives of Albanian institutions, the European Parliament and the parliaments of member states.

At the center of the event’s discussions will be the progress of the European Union enlargement process, the implementation of key reforms, regional stability and the concrete steps of Albania’s journey toward full membership.

The event opens with welcoming remarks by the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Niko Peleshi, Prime Minister Edi Rama, the European Union Ambassador to Albania, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, and the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Albania, Andreas Schieder.

The conference proceedings will be structured in three main sessions addressing the enlargement agenda and Albania’s integration, the role of enlargement as a strategic factor for security and reforms, and parliamentary leadership in advancing the European process. The panels will be moderated by the Chairman of the Committee for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, in cooperation with representatives of the participating parliamentary delegations.
