Explosion at Syrian Army Facility in Ayyash, Deir Az Zor — Injuries Reported

An explosion occurred at a Syrian army facility in the Ayyash area, west of Deir Az Zor province, Al Jazeera Arabic reports citing Syrian sources. According to initial reports, the explosion caused injuries.

The cause of the explosion and the exact number of the injured have not yet been made public, and there has so far been no official comment from the authorities in Damascus. Al Jazeera Arabic said it would bring more information as soon as it becomes available.

The Deir Az Zor area, in eastern Syria near the Euphrates valley, has in recent months been the scene of frequent clashes between armed groups, and Syrian military facilities have repeatedly been targeted amid the escalation of the regional conflict.

The explosion comes on a day of heightened military activity in the region, as the war between the U.S. and Iran continues to expand beyond the two countries’ borders, involving Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.
