Family of Salih Mëziu reacts after identification of mortal remains: painful answer after more than 27 years of waiting
The family of Salih Mëziu has reacted after the confirmation of his identity, 27 years after he disappeared during the war in Kosovo.
Mëziu’s mortal remains were identified through DNA analysis, after they were found in Kalludër and Jabukë of Zubin Potok.
It was announced on Saturday that DNA analyses have confirmed the identity of three victims, whose mortal remains were found in these two locations. They are Idriz Rreci, Adem Beqiri and Salih Mëziu, members of the so-called “Group of Intellectuals,” activists from Skenderaj and Mitrovica, who were abducted by Serbian forces on April 19, 1999 and had been listed as missing ever since.
Salih Mëziu’s son, Tomori, announced via a Facebook post that the family had waited more than 27 years for an answer about his father’s fate.
“After more than 27 years of waiting, this is a painful answer, but at the same time a long-awaited one,” he wrote.
Tomori said that, despite the confirmation of his father’s identity, the family’s pain remains great, as they are still waiting for the identification of other members of the Mëziu family.
According to him, the family hopes the other members will be identified as soon as possible, so that after so many years they can organize the burial ceremony.
He announced that the family is in coordination with the competent institutions and expressed hope that there will soon be information about the other family members. /Telegrafi/
