Fighting in Taiz: government forces say they killed 30 Houthi fighters in al-Wazi’iyah district

Clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis in Taiz have been concentrated in the west of the governorate, particularly in al-Wazi’iyah district, around the al-Dharifah junction, according to government military sources, Al Jazeera’s correspondent on the ground reports.

Government forces announced that 30 Houthi fighters had been killed and 60 others wounded — a toll that could not be independently verified.

According to them, airstrikes were used against Houthi positions at the al-Dhikra junction and in the al-Damna and al-Rahida areas of Taiz. In Mocha, government forces said raids targeted Houthi movements, reinforcements and the roads leading there, in an effort to cut supplies and prevent any advance toward the coast.

The Yemeni army also reported that it had repelled a Houthi attack on its positions in Kahbub, after clashes that lasted more than three hours, adding that it had repelled the attack three times and forced the attackers to retreat.
