Fire in the village of Mallunxë in Mat, rugged terrain hampers the work of the crews on the ground

A fire outbreak was recorded in the village of Mallunxë in the Municipality of Mat this afternoon (5 October).

Firefighters from Burrel and employees of the Municipality of Mat have arrived at the scene and are working to isolate the flames and prevent the fire from spreading towards homes.

According to preliminary information, the fire is suspected to have been caused by residents of the area burning vegetation. The flames are suspected to have got out of control, engulfing an area of vegetation.

The intervention is being hampered by the rugged terrain, which does not allow fire engines to move and approach all the affected areas.

For this reason, the work to extinguish and isolate the flames is being carried out mainly by the crews on the ground, who are trying to curb the spread of the fire and keep the situation under control.
