FOCUS – Carney: Canada will remain the most important partner of the U.S., despite the trade war
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has declared that Canada will continue to be a key partner of the United States, despite tensions created by the trade war between the two countries, writes euronews.com.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto, Carney addressed the United States directly, emphasizing the importance of their shared relationship. “To our American friends I want to say this: We will always be close neighbors and Canada will continue to be the most important partner of the United States in many key sectors,” Carney declared.
He added that even in periods when the two countries have had disagreements, the ties between them have remained strong. “Even in moments of divergence, during our long shared history, we have always maintained deep ties,” the Canadian prime minister said.
Carney also emphasized that Canada aims in the future to be “an even better partner” for the United States, focusing on strengthening the economy and security. “Stronger, more resilient, more independent and ready to advance our shared economic and security interests,” he said.
The statements come in a period of heightened trade tensions between Ottawa and Washington, which have affected economic and political relations between the two countries.
