General Staff: Russia has lost 1,528,970 troops in Ukraine since February 24, 2022 — 1,690 in the last day

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced on Saturday that Russia has lost about 1,528,970 troops since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, of which 1,690 in the last 24 hours alone, as The Kyiv Independent reports.

The updated tally of the Ukrainian headquarters, cited by international media, also includes heavy material losses for Russian forces: 12,384 tanks, 25,442 armored combat vehicles, 154,245 vehicles and fuel tankers, 50,428 artillery systems, 2,163 multiple-launch rocket systems, 1,677 air defense systems, 443 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,762 unmanned ground vehicles, 35 ships and boats, as well as two submarines, according to The Kyiv Independent.

On the other hand, Ukrainian authorities continue not to make their own losses public, considering them operational information. A January 2026 report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimates that Ukraine may have suffered 500,000 to 600,000 casualties — killed, wounded and missing — in the period February 2022 – December 2025, of which 100,000 to 140,000 killed, with the Russia–Ukraine casualty ratio estimated at approximately 2.5 to 1 or 2 to 1.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told French television France TV on February 4 that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the start of the full-scale war, alongside a considerable number of missing persons.

Casualty figures remain the subject of the information war between the two sides and cannot be independently verified; Western experts’ estimates of Ukrainian losses vary significantly from Kyiv’s official tallies.
