Giants’ Brian Burns believed to have suffered torn ACL in win over Titans
Brian Burns, the New York Giants’ pass-rush star, is believed to have torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during Sunday’s 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans. Burns went down early in the fourth quarter and did not return to the game; he had earlier been playing through an ankle issue.
As NFL reports, Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter reported Monday that the injury is expected to keep the three-time Pro Bowl selection out for the entire season.
The loss is a heavy blow for the 2-1 Giants, who had already lost starter Jaxson Dart in Week 2. With Burns out, the team will lean more on Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux, while the coaching staff may also revisit rookie Arvell Reese’s role to cover the gap on defense.
Burns had generated five quarterback pressures in the first three games, including four in Sunday’s game, according to Next Gen Stats, and the injury makes coach John Harbaugh’s task of getting the team back into contention at a fast pace more difficult. According to NFL, these major injuries increase the Giants’ challenges in the coming weeks against opponents like the Cardinals, Commanders and Saints.
