Haliti: I want a face-to-face debate with those against the former KLA leaders, to show them the letters too
Former PDK MP Xhavit Haliti spoke about the former KLA leaders being tried in The Hague, their sentences, and the process of voting on the Special Court.
Haliti said that, according to him, at the time the establishment of the Special Court was voted on, MPs were not forced to vote and there was no direct international pressure.
“I don’t know, back when it was voted on, no one forced anyone to vote and there was no international pressure. However, there was international pressure only in that if you do not vote, the UN will take it over. That was it, if it can be considered pressure,” Haliti stated.
He also spoke about the possibility of the matter being sent to the United Nations Organisation, saying that in such a case the procedures would have taken place within the UN framework.
“The UN then, when it establishes it, the members of this court, if it had been taken over by the UN, could have been found from all UN states, depending on their procedures, they would have chosen. Because Kosovo has been and still is, in a way, and Resolution 1244 has still not been removed,” he said on Tëvë1.
Haliti also commented on claims that the former KLA leaders are involved in the process because of their role in the Kosovo Liberation Army.
“I am hearing all kinds of discussions, no better, that ‘they had done them’, that ‘they released Ramush and them and them’. And as far as I have heard, there are no direct arguments for the former KLA leaders, but they have taken them as the core of the KLA, as they have interpreted it,” Haliti said.
The former PDK MP also spoke about the positions of people who oppose the release of the former KLA leaders, saying that a part of them, according to him, do not wish them to get out of prison.
“I think it is very good to help the former leaders in The Hague and it is good to help them, because there are also those who do not wish you to help them and for them to remain in prison. I am seeing in comments and in media people who are speaking explicitly politically. There are plenty who do not desire their release,” Haliti stated.
He said he is ready to hold a direct debate on this topic with those who hold opposite positions.
“I will not discuss this topic today, because I like to debate this topic with them directly and show them their letters too,” Haliti concluded.
