Haliti: If it agrees to amend the law on the Special Court, LVV should be voted for whichever name it offers for president
Xhavit Haliti of the Democratic Party of Kosovo has said that if the Vetëvendosje Movement agrees to changes to the Law on the Specialist Chambers (the Special Court), then it should be voted for the president, whichever name it offers.
“If VV agrees to change the law, then I think the president should be voted for, whichever name VV offers,” Haliti said on KTV’s Interaktiv programme, according to the Koha.net portal.
He justified the PDK’s request by saying that his party seeks only a pledge from the Government and the state that the former KLA leaders will be financially supported during the court proceedings. According to him, the assistance given so far has not covered the lawyers’ expenses and families have been forced to take on debt. “The PDK is right because it has a concern,” Haliti said.
Haliti also assessed that Kosovo is closer to new parliamentary elections than to electing a president. “Yes, we are facing a situation where new elections will be declared, more than the president being elected,” he said.
The PDK leader, Bedri Hamza, has said earlier that if the Government sends the draft law amending the Law on the Specialist Chambers to the Assembly, the PDK will discuss the presidency — but he did not say that his party would vote for whichever name LVV would propose. On September 21, the PDK submitted an initiative to limit the Special Court’s mandate only to the alleged crimes in Dick Marty’s report, with international monitoring.
