Hamza adamant: No talks on the President until the law is done — if the law passes in two readings, I guarantee the PDK’s 22 votes
The chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Bedri Hamza, has declared that the vote on amending the law relating to the Specialist Court must take place before the start of talks on electing the President of Kosovo. Hamza said this issue is a priority for the PDK, while announcing that so far the talks on the President have not produced an agreement.
“The law is the top priority for everything. We have talked about the President and we have seen that there is no path to an agreement, and we have shown that we continue in opposition,” Hamza declared on T7.
According to him, the amendment of the law must be voted on before the election of the President, insisting that the procedures on this issue be completed as soon as possible. “The law must come before the election of the President; one day before a President is elected it must be done. I think it should be tomorrow. There are no talks on the President without voting on the law,” he said.
The PDK leader made clear that only after the law passes in two readings is his party ready to sit at the table to discuss a joint name for President. “I am saying it clearly: the first thing is the law. The law passes in two readings, then we sit down and talk about the President, where I guarantee that there will be the PDK’s 22 votes, that process, for the name we agree on,” Hamza declared.
With this stance, Hamza has made further talks on the President conditional on the prior approval of the legal changes relating to the Specialist Court.
