High tension surrounding Israel–Ireland match
Tension is high around the Nations League match between Israel and Ireland, scheduled for Sunday in Debrecen, Hungary. Ireland’s reserve goalkeeper, Gavin Bazunu, initially expressed his desire not to take part in the match, and at least four of his teammates are reportedly ready to join him.
The team is under growing pressure at home, where solidarity with the Palestinians is strong, to boycott both matches: the first scheduled for Sunday and the second, Ireland’s home match, scheduled for October 4 in Serbia.
In the end, the match will go ahead as planned, despite the postponement of the pre-match press conference and the delay in training.
