Houla municipality condemns burning of government hospital in Mays al-Jabal by Israeli forces: “flagrant violation”

The municipality of Houla in southern Lebanon has accused Israeli forces of systematically destroying public facilities in border villages, singling out the burning of the government hospital in Mays al-Jabal.

According to the municipality, Israeli soldiers previously destroyed Houla’s official school and day-care center. It described the latest incident — the burning of the Mays al-Jabal government hospital — as a “flagrant violation of the sanctity of public institutions,” the state-run National News Agency reported.

The municipality called on the Lebanese state, the United Nations and international humanitarian organizations to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said Israeli troops set fire to the Mays al-Jabal hospital on Friday after occupying the building and using it as a military post, describing the act as a war crime.

The facility had been out of service since the October 2024 Israeli strikes and was undergoing reconstruction when it was burned.
