Houthi drone intercepted over Taif: one killed, two wounded — first fatality in Saudi Arabia this month

One person was killed and two others were wounded in the Taif region, in southwestern Saudi Arabia, after the interception of a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, the Saudi News Agency announced. The victim was a Yemeni resident, according to the report.

Saudi civil defense said the Iran-backed Houthis had launched the drone toward Taif. This is the first announced death in the kingdom this month since the Houthis resumed attacks on Saudi Arabia, as part of the escalation of their war with the Saudi coalition.

The attack comes at a time of rising tension: the Houthis have launched missiles and drones at Saudi cities, including the attempted strike on Mecca, while Saudi Arabia has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Yemen and issued urgent security warnings in Jazan, al-Ula, Jeddah, Yanbu and Taif.

Riyadh has vowed to respond “with determination” to Houthi attacks, while the United States has urged its citizens to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia due to the conflict with Yemen.
