Houthi Leader: Conflict With the U.S. ‘Will Continue’ — Yemen Government: We Downed a Drone in Taiz, Hit Houthis Near Bab al-Mandeb

Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi declared on Monday that his group’s conflict with the United States “will continue” for as long as Washington’s objective is “domination over the Yemeni people.”

In a televised speech, al-Houthi claimed the U.S. is considering a joint escalation with Saudi Arabia against the Houthis, saying that “regional circumstances have kept the U.S. and Israel somewhat busy,” which creates a problem for the Saudi regime, which seeks their participation in the aggression and blockade against the Yemeni people.

On the other hand, forces of the Yemeni government, backed by Saudi Arabia, said they have downed a Houthi reconnaissance drone on the al-Kadha front in Taiz province, where fighting continues fiercely and casualties are reported on both sides.

The Yemeni government also announced it has struck Houthi fighters and supply lines near Bab al-Mandeb and in al-Bayda province, south of the capital Sanaa.

The Houthi leader’s speech comes at a time when fighting in Taiz and around Bab al-Mandeb is intensifying, and when the international community warns of the risk of a full closure of the region’s second strategic strait.
