Hoxhaj, who was inside the courtroom in The Hague: ‘You could feel in the air it would be a draconian verdict’
Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Enver Hoxhaj has said it was palpable in the air that the verdict for the former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders would be a draconian one.
He was present in the public gallery when the sentences were handed down for Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli and Rexhep Selimi.
“I was myself in the gallery following the session closely, and you could feel in the air that, even before the judge began reading the verdict, it would be a draconian decision. 25 years. Those who planned genocide, ethnic cleansing across the former Yugoslavia, did not get 25 years,” Hoxhaj said on DPT Te Fidani.
Among other things, he said that what happened in the court with the guilty verdict is “an overturning of Kosovo’s history”.
“I think what happened that day in the Court is an overturning of Kosovo’s history. You could not believe that a judicial panel of a court that says it is a Kosovo Court begins the story with the March of ’98 and does not mention apartheid, does not mention the occupation, does not mention the persecutions, does not mention the fact that children and women were killed, does not mention the 100-year oppression, does not mention the displacement and ethnic cleansing, and does not mention the genocide that happened in Kosovo — all of these documented by international organizations, from the UN on down,” Hoxhaj said.
